Lawyers, notaries being forced back to work
Quebec Treasury Board president Pierre Moreau announced that special legislation will be tabled Monday forcing over a thousand striking lawyers and notaries back to work.
Moreau had issued a 48 hour ultimatum on Friday, accusing union representatives of not negotiating in good faith. An extension was granted and a meeting was scheduled at noon Saturday, but the union did not show up.
The legislation comes on the heels of the government's final offer to the union Thursday, which is believed to have offered a wage increase.
Representatives of Les avocats et notaires de l'état quebécois will speak Sunday at a press conference in Quebec City.
Moreau announced the legislation will be introduced at 5:00 Monday afternoon. He says the door remains open for negotiations to continue.
