Live on the island? Expect to pay more for automobile insurance
Along with higher housing costs and gasoline prices, an insurance broker says if you live on the Island of Montreal you can expect to pay at least 23% more for automobile insurance than someone living just about anywhere else in Quebec.
The survey by kanetix.ca found that on average a Montreal motorist will pay $ 756 a year to insure a vehicle compared to $ 616 in any other major city in the province.
The company says it used a profile of a typical 35 year old with an excellent driving record who owns a 2014 Honda Civic.
The same policy would have cost a resident of Repentigny $ 593 while a motorist in Mirabel would pay $ 556.
The company says along with population size, the number of claims made in a region are factors in setting insurance rates.
