Local rapper killed outside home in Laval
Laval police are trying to determine why a 26-year-old father of two and well known rapper in the Greater Montreal's Spanish community was gunned down in his driveway Wednesday.
Officers were called to a home on the corner of Des Laurentides Blvd and des Terrasses Avenue after gunshots were heard around 6:00 A.M. At the scene they found the body of John Dany Elias Espinal, lying in his driveway next to his car. He had been shot in the head.
"The Laval Major Crimes Section is directing this investigation and they have met with family and friends of the victim," Lieutenant Frederic Jean of Laval Police told CTV Montreal. "They are trying to ascertain a motive for this crime."
Espinal is not known to authorities and was described as a family man who was always smiling.
"We have some witnesses and we're trying to find more witnesses, but right now we don't have a precise description that we can divulge to the public," Jean said.
Espinal was born in the Dominican Republic. He later moved to Quebec and studied at LaSalle College. He was well known by his stage name, John Danny Wea Wea.
Along with participating in rap battles and local shows as a solo artist, Espinal was a member of the Bachata, Merengue group D-Flow. In 2015 the group won the Bachata of the year Award at Canada's Latin Awards.
