LOOK: Big storm produces avalanche (LOL) of social media images
Statistically, it might not be up to par with the legendary blizzard of March 4, 1971 — not yet, anyway — but this big 40+ centimetre snow dump will be remembered for a long time to come in Montreal.
Motorists who were stuck on highway 13 south for several hours on Tuesday night will certainly remember it — with little fondness.
Many simply abandoned their cars and started walking.
On Wednesday morning, mayor Denis Coderre tweeted that those cars can be found at Burstall, at 480 Montreal-Toronto Blvd. in Lachine.
Les voitures abandonnées sur l'aut.13 sud seront remorquées et peuvent être récupérées chez Burstall, 480, boul. Montréal-Toronto(Lachine)— DenisCoderre (@DenisCoderre) March 15, 2017
Meanwhile, social media images of the storm were inescapable on Wednesday morning.
One Facebook user, Kevin Desjardins-Jean, was on Highway 10 near Magog Tuesday afternoon, just as the storm was hitting its stride, and witnessed the beginnings of a massive 50-car pileup. The video he posted of cars smashing into one another has been seen nearly 4 million times.
The still images of the accident are just as jarring.
And many others flooded various social media outlets with their own images. Some of them are actually quite pretty.
