Man arrested after hit-and-run and high speed chase

One man was arrested after leading police on a high speed chase all along the South Shore early Thursday.

The chase started at about 2:00 A.M. when officers pulled over a white pickup truck in Boucherville. During the stop police noticed the driver, who is known to police, was in violation of bail conditions. The man then took off but not before hitting another vehicle and then leading police through parts of Boucherville and Longueuil.

After losing site of the truck at least once police called off the chase and called in back up from both the Sûreté du Québec and Richelieu-Saint-Laurent police force.

The driver, a 29-year-old man, was again spotted on Route 132. 

At one point during the pursuit the pickup truck hit speeds up to 160 KM/H, and rammed into a police cruiser in an attempt to evade capture.

The chase ended at about 4:00 A.M. near Taschereau Blvd. in the shadow of the Jacques Cartier Bridge.

The man faces charges of breach of condition, hit-and-run and dangerous driving among others.
