Man arrested for fatal hit-and-run of Saint-Constant toddler

Six weeks after a toddler escaped his parents' sight and was run over in Saint-Constant, police have arrested a 25-year-old man they believed fatally struck Dominique Wenga.

Roussillon regional police confirm the man was arrested in his home on Wednesday morning. He had been interrogated the day of the hit-and-run and denied any wrongdoing.

On May 27, the two-year-old Wenga was playing in the backyard of his family's home on Rabelais St. when he got away from his parents.

He was found unconscious in the street and pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital.

The 25-year-old suspect is expected to be arraigned on Thursday at the Longueuil courthouse and is expected to be charged with one count of failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm or death, which carries a life sentence in prison.
