Markov off to Russia to be reunited with his twin boys after their mother's death
Montreal Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov is going to Moscow next week.
While most of his teammates will likely be heading south for some sun and warmth during the five day bye week, Markov will be going to Russia to be re-united with his twin five year old boys.
The twins are a product of his relationship with his former girlfriend who died in December after a battle with ovarian cancer.
The boys were born in Montreal and lived in Canada for two years before going to Russia with their mother when she and Markov split up.
Markov says her illness had weighed heavily on him and he tells the Journal de Montreal that she was a good mother who would do everything she could for the children.
He also says he last saw her prior to coming to Montreal at the start of the season and knew at that time it would probably be the last time he saw her.
Markov has a 10 month old daughter with his current partner and says all he hopes for now is to have one, happy family.
