Mayor wants Charles Dutoit booted from Order of Montreal
The Plante Administration wants to make changes to the rules governing the Order of Montreal in order to remove one particular honoree: former Montreal Symphony Orchestra conductor Charles Dutoit.
In recent months, a number of musicians and singers have accused Dutoit of sexual misconduct, some of the incidents taking place during his time at the MSO. Dutoit maintains his innocence, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
La Presse reports that the Plante Administration will propose a rule change at today's executive committee meeting. It would loosen the rules for explusion, which right now allow for someone to be kicked out of the Order of Montreal only if found guilty by a court.
The reworded rule speaks of behaviour that calls into question the reputation and the value of the Order.
