Montreal declares library book fee amnesty
The City of Montreal stands to forfeit close to a million dollars after saying it will forgive all outstanding late library fees for the next two weeks.
The Executive Committee member responsible for culture Manon Gauthier says in a statement that the amnesty is designed to recover books and documents that have been missing for years, while at the same time encouraging people who may have stayed away from the city's libraries to return.
The amnesty will be in effect until June 22nd.
Anyone with an overdue book, no matter how late it is, will be able to return it without charge.
The city's libraries have $992,705 in uncollected fees.
