Montreal firefighters dispatched to barn collapse in Mauricie

Twenty Montreal firefighters are in the Mauricie region north of Trois Rivieres, helping to search a collapsed barn for a missing farm worker.

The firefighters have special training in confined space rescue.

The roof of the barn in Saint-Tite caved in yesterday, possibly under the weight of accumulated snow.

Inside the building were a 35-year old worker from Guatamala and about a hundred animals.

Only a few animals have been removed from the debris.  A team of veterinarians is standing by in case any are found alive.

Today, crews are using backhoes to gingerly lift shovelfuls of snow, metal and wood.
