New Champlain Bridge could get new name
The new Champlain Bridge that's slated to open by the end of the year could have a slightly different name.
Federal Infrastructure Minister François-Philippe Champagne says the feds are proposing changing the name of the bridge, calling it the Samuel de Champlain Bridge.
He says both citizens and historians alike have called for the change, but he will wait for some feedback before any kind of decision is made.
On July 5th, elected officials from Longueuil passed a motion calling for the new bridge to change its name.
The structure is expected to open to traffic by December 21st, provided there are no other construction delays.
