New Champlain Bridge to be ready December 21

The consortium building the new Champlain Bridge confirmed this morning that the bridge will be completed slightly above budget, and slightly behind schedule......relatively speaking.

The project will come in $235 million dollars above the $4.2 billion budget,  in large part because of the weight restrictions that were implemented when trucks were used to bring key parts of the bridge to the job site.

The change required the consortium to float the parts on barges, from Sorel.

The bridge is now expected to be completed December 21 instead of the promised delivery date of December 1.

The Signature on the St. Lawrence (SSL) consortium and federal government also announced that they had settled a dispute over the cause of the cost overruns which will have the company avoid paying a penalty for late delivery.
