No school bus for more than 73,000 students today

A province-wide school bus driver strike will still leave more than 73,000 students in need of a lift to and from school today, but that is fewer than what it could have been.

The strike was supposed to have seen 32 school boards and more than 110,000 students impacted, but Quebec's labour board tribunal ruled that not all of the unions had the mandate to issue a general strike.

Now, only 19 school boards will see service disruptions.

The Lester B. Pearson and English Montreal school boards will be business as usual. About 500 students at Sir Wilfrid-Laurier School Board in Laval and 1,500 students with the Riverside School Board on the South Shore will need to find alternate transportation.

On the island of Montreal more than 1,000 students at the Commission scolaire de Montreal will be affected.

The unions are threatening another strike on May 28 if nothing changes.
