One man dies in massive highway pileup near Mont St. Hilaire
A man in his 70s has been confirmed dead in a massive pileup which started at around 1 p.m. Wednesday on highway 20 near Mont St. Hilaire.
For the moment, it's unclear how it started, but provincial police say several big rigs were involved in the pileup, which was likely triggered by the snowy road conditions.
Provincial police say several people were taken to hospital.
It's just one of snow-related incidents on the province's roads. Another pileup on Highway 30 near St. Constant forced the closure of that road in both directions.
Drivers are being reminded to slow down, and to keep a safe distance between themselves and other cars.
Environment Canada says about 10 to 15 centimetres are expected to fall in Montreal, up to 25 in parts of the Eastern Townships and the Montérégie region and significantly less up north.
