Plante administration aware of potential construction fraud for SPVM building
Mayor Valérie Plante says her administration is fully aware of possible fraud involving billing for construction on a new investigation centre for the SPVM.
Plante told the Journal de Montreal not only were they well aware of the situation, they were the ones that sounded the alarm.
The Journal's investigation team revealed that the Sûreté du Québec conducted searches in November at two construction firms that alledgedly overcharged for electrical work at the new building in the east end of Montreal.
The bill for this work tripled in comparison to the bid from the general contractor responsible for the project, which was $ 1.3 million.
Plante did comment further as it is still under investigation but no charges have been laid at this time.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of March and will cost a total of $23 million.
