Pointe-Claire hires shepherd and his flock to tend waterfront park

The City of Pointe-Claire is launching a pilot project to see if it is possible to maintain Edgewater Park in an eco-friendly manner.

In a release, Mayor John Belvedere has announced that the city it has contracted a shepherd and a flock of six sheep to graze on the grass of the lakefront park this summer.

The city will erect a temporary shelter to cordon off the area being grazed which will be moved as need be.

Belvedere says the animals will work seven days a week in the period from June 11 to July 20.

A feed dispenser will  be available to allow passersby to purchase feed for the animals.

The sheep will not work during periods of extreme heat or during summer storms.
