Police arrest 33-year-old man for making online threats

Montreal police have arrested a 33-year-old Longueuil man in connection with threats posted online against immigrants.

The threats were posted on the Spotted: STM Facebook page, where bus and metro users tend to vent about all things transit-related.

Police say they caught up with Mathieu Cadieux Castilloux early Thursday morning, and he appeared in court the next day.

He was released on conditions — among them, he's forbidden from using the Internet and forbidden to use alcohol or drugs, unless they're prescribed by a doctor.

The threats were made on Wednesday against immigrants, and people who disagreed with him on the discussion pages. Police didn't elaborate on who was targeted, or in what context.

Montreal police are reminding people that they can report criminal activity through 9-1-1, or their Info-Crime tipline at 514-393-1133.
