Port of Montreal employers going on hiring spree

The Port of Montreal's employers say they are seeing the benefits of Canada's free trade agreement with the European Union, and as a result, they're going on a hiring spree.

The Maritime Employers Union tells La Presse that tonnage handled by the Port is up by 25% in the year since the trade agreement came into force and half of the hike is cargo from Europe.

The Employers Union says in the coming weeks, it will be looking to fill  65 positions: 50 cargo handlers and 15 inspectors.

They will join the Employers Union's 1,200 current employees.
