Provincial investment to further fight elder abuse

There's a provincial promise to do more to combat elder abuse.

Lucy Charbonneau, minister for seniors, has made public an investment aimed at raising awareness and giving the elderly more resources.

The province is investing 45-million dollars over six years to fight mistreatment of seniors, including physical and financial abuse, usually at the hands of people who have their highest trust.

CTV's Maya Johnson reported "the government's latest action plan isn't just about cracking down on outright abuse, it's also about promoting basic respect for the elderly."

The minister said ageism is something we live with on a daily basis.

"I mean, somebody crossing the street, not walking fast enough and getting the honk to make sure they walk faster" said Charbonneau.

The investment includes 52 measures.
