Quebec's election campaign will begin on August 23
At the provincial Liberal Party's annual youth convention, Premier Philippe Couillard announced that he will ask the Lieutenant Governor to dissolve the National Assembly and trigger an election on the 23rd of August.
Though Quebec's upcoming election day has been scheduled in law for some time now, it was unclear when the Premier would officially kick off the campaign period, which under law must be between 33 and 39 days in length. With a start-date of August 23, the forthcoming campaign period will be the legal maximum, at 39 days.
