RCMP takes down global money-laundering operation in Montreal and Toronto
The Mounties will hold a news conference tomorrow morning to reveal how they've taken down a major international money laundering operation.
Sgt. Luc Thibault says the force has been investigating the operation since the spring of 2016, and dismantled it with a series of arrests in the Montreal and Greater Toronto areas on Monday morning.
About 300 officers, including some from the Montreal, Laval and Toronto forces, took part in what's being called Project Collecteur, seizing drugs and more than a million dollars in Canadian and foreign currency.
The Mounties say nine of the 15 arrests were made in the Montreal area. They're expected to face conspiracy, trafficking and money laundering charges.
