REMINDER: National emergency alert test across Quebec this morning
If your cellphone starts making a sound similar to an ambulance siren this morning, don't freak out because it's only a test.
The test signals will be sent to millions of Canadian smart phone users as part of a test of a new national public alert system.
Last month the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission ordered wireless providers to distribute warnings for tornadoes, floods, Amber Alerts or terrorist threats via compatible mobile devices on an L-T-E network (find a full list here).
In Quebec the test alert will be sent out at 9:55 A.M. and will be heard on radio, TV and via your smart phone.
Phone users in the middle of a conversation will be interrupted with a sound similar to the call waiting tone, while those who have their device shut off during the test won't receive the signal.
