Return to politics? PKP still owes $128,000 from last time
Pierre Karl Peladeau may be showing interest in returning to politics, but he still owes $128,813 dating back to 2015, when he successfully ran to lead the Parti Quebecois, according to Quebec's Chief Electoral Officer.
He has until this May to pay off the outstanding money to Elections Quebec. Under provincial rules, he is allowed to solicit up to $500 per elector to help pay off his campaign costs.
Since winning the Parti Quebecois leadership in 2015 and abruptly resigning within a year, Peladeau has largely kept quiet on the political front.
Earlier this week, however, he signalled he was open to a political return, saying he was at "the disposal of the Republic."
Peladeau's outstanding debt was last counted at the end of November, and Elections Quebec is supposed to provide an update on how much Peladeau owes next month.
