School boards to province on expanding recess time: your math is wrong

Quebec's school boards say the Legault government is wrong when it insists that expanding school recess time won't cost money.

The province wants every school to offer a 20 minute break both morning and afternoon.

Right now, 40% of elementary schools have under 30 minutes of total recess time each day. Some do not offer an afternoon break at all.

La Presse says the federation representing Quebec's school boards is calculating the additional cost at  $20-million a year to adjust the school day and add extra recess supervision to the workload of teachers or monitors.
