Lisa Ryan picked up a $15 ring, made an account at wedding planning site The Knot, created a proposal story - and then started raking in the discounts.

As Ryan would learn, there are a myriad of discounts and promotions available to brides-to-be. With an invented backstory and her best friend in tow, Ryan took three months to research how businesses target engaged women. She says it was the best customer service experiences of her life.
