Social media threat closes another West Island school for the day

Students and staff at the École Secondaire des Sources in Dollard Des Ormeaux got an unscheduled day off Thursday, after the school became the target of an online threat.

Police say the school got wind of the threat Wednesday afternoon, and sent students home with a letter to their parents later in the afternoon informing them the school would be closed for the day.

On Thursday morning, police say they arrested a 13-year-old boy, who they say made some sort of death threat against someone at the school on his Instagram account.

Police searched the boy's home, and found no bombs or weapons.

It's the second time this week that a school on the West Island closed for a day because of an online threat.

Students and staff at Beaconsfield High School were abruptly given the day off on Tuesday morning after a social media threat made the rounds.

The threatening message targeted 'BHS' — but the BHS is question turned out to be a school in rural Georgia called Brunswick High School. A 16-year-old student there was arrested.
