Some Montreal bus drivers have been paid to do nothing
It's been a very easy time at work lately for some Montreal bus drivers.
The Gazette reported dozens of them reported for work in recent weeks and have been paid to do nothing because there are no buses available.
An STM spokesman is reported saying at least 100 buses a day have been cut.
According to the paper, the STM says it's been a harsh winter, especially since there was already a backlog of buses waiting for repairs or maintenance before the arrival of cold temperatures.
"With the extreme temperatures we’ve been seeing, it’s a challenge every day,” Alain Legault said. “Our employees are on the ground to try to help and they are working hard to make sure the service is being given."
The union is reported saying the STM is making things worse by stopping to fuel up buses on a daily basis and doing so only as needed.
