Spring finally coming after final bout with winter

The freezing rain and ice pellets the past 24 hours may have been Old Man Winter's last visit to Montreal for the season; the weather office says the area is finally springing into springtime.

"We should be hopefully in the clear, hopefully it's only spring rain and we will stay closer to the [average temperature for the time of year]," Environment Canada meteorologist Steve Boily told CJAD 800 News.

A colleague also did some checking he added, and in the past 53 years, this was the first time freezing precipitation was recorded at Trudeau Airport in Montreal past April 15.

This week will bring plenty of April showers, Boily said, and looking ahead to the weekend the Montreal area can expect temperatures in the double-digits—normal for this time of year—and the sun to re-emerge.

"That was unusual weather we just had," he admitted.
