STM bus drivers and metro operators voting on strike mandate
It could be the first step toward a good old-fashioned Montreal transit strike.
STM bus drivers and metro operators are meeting Thursday to vote on whether to give its union a mandate to go on strike.
Results of the strike vote are expected on Thursday evening.
If the workers approve, they would be in a position to strike, though drivers would be bound by essential services guidelines — which in the past has meant morning and afternoon rush hours service only, and service for two hours in the late evenings.
On Wednesday, STM maintenance workers announced they would be going on an overtime strike starting on Monday. They would also engage in other pressure tactics, including not acknowledging last-minute shift changes. The pressure tactics could lead to delays on some bus lines, if some buses aren't properly serviced.
