Teachers threaten illegal strike
Elementary and high school teachers who work at the largest school board in Quebec have been called to a meeting tonight to vote on whether to walk off the job.
Although currently under contract, the union representing 8500 teachers employed by the Commission scolaire de Montréal (CSDM) wants to renegotiate certain working conditions including class prep time and hours worked.
Any job action would be illegal and the government would likely act quickly to force the teachers back.
Some 60,000 students are enrolled in CSDM schools across the island.
The vote will be held at the Olympia Theatre at 5 p.m.
