Tornado touches down in Beauce
Environment Canada has confirmed a tornado touched down in Quebec's Beauce region on Saturday as a series of severe thunderstorms swept through the province.
The agency says the 150 km/h winds caused more than a kilometre of damage to trees, farm buildings and homes.
A spokesperson said the tornado was rated F1, or moderate, on the scale that measures tornado intensity.
Specialists were sent to the region south of Quebec City to confirm the nature of the storm.
Quebec gets five or six tornadoes per year, most of mild or moderate intensity.
