Trucker dead following tanker accident on Highway 15
The driver of a truck that crashed and flipped onto its side on Highway 15 near the De La Verendrye exit Thursday morning is dead.
The crash happened at around 10:30 a.m. on the northbound side of Highway 15, eventually forcing both sides of the highway to be closed between the Turcot interchange and the Bonaventure Expressway.
In the hours following the accident, there was no sign from the trucker, a man in his 40s, who remained trapped in his cab. Just before 2 p.m., rescuers managed to reach the man, but a short time later pronounced him dead on the scene.
The truck was carrying some sort of hazardous material, complicating matters for cleanup crews. The truck can't be taken away until the material is pumped into another truck.
Officials with Transport Quebec say that stretch of the 15 to remain closed indefinitely in both directions.
