TSN, Canadiens announce new radio and TV broadcast deal

For the foreseeable future, TSN will be the radio and television broadcast home of the Montreal Canadiens.

A new deal announced on Tuesday will see TSN become the official English-language television broadcaster of the team, beginning with the 2017-18 season.

TSN 690 — CJAD 800's sister station — will also continue to broadcast Habs pre-season, regular season and playoff games on radio for the next five years, through the 2021-22 season.

RDS will continue to be the French-language home of the Habs.

“We are very pleased to have entered a new partnership agreement with TSN for the Canadiens English television regional broadcasting rights,” said Geoff Molson, owner, president and CEO of the Montreal Canadiens. “This agreement with TSN is a testament to our commitment to provide our fans with a comprehensive and quality broadcast on English television for the foreseeable future.”

TSN 690's program director Chris Bury says the extension of the radio deal means TSN 690 will continue to bring the most complete Habs coverage anywhere in Montreal.

"It's something that we're all excited about...and I hope fans are excited about it as well," Bury says. “The Montreal Canadiens are an iconic franchise with a very passionate fan base, and TSN 690 is proud to continue to provide comprehensive live coverage of all their games, as well as extensive pre-and post-game coverage and analysis,”

Other details, including channel placements and broadcast teams, will be announced in the coming months.
