Two Quebec City women arrested after toddlers found abandoned in filthy apartment
Two Quebec City women, aged 18 and 38, are under arrest on suspicion of abandoning two young children in their apartment.
At around 1 p.m. on Monday, passersby noticed the 2-year-old twin girls playing with a loose storm window in their third-floor apartment on Nemours St. in the Charlesbourg district, and called police, worried they might fall out.
When police arrived at the apartment, they found the two girls had been left alone, locked in a bedroom.
They also noticed the apartment was filthy, with garbage and excrement in several places.
Police immediately fed the youngsters and turned them over to youth protection officials.
They tracked down the two women — their mother and their grandmother — later on that evening. They were questioned and then released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. They could face charges of child abandonment and forcible confinement.
