Two suspects arrested in case of elderly couple confined for four years
An extreme case of elder abuse will make its way to the courthouse in Trois-Rivières Friday morning.
Two suspects in their 50's face charges of kidnapping, extortion, assault and uttering threats involving an elderly couple who were apparently kept locked in the basement of a home for four years.
La Presse Canadienne carries a report which says police began an investigation about a year ago, and moved to make the arrests yesterday.
The report says it appears the elderly couple lived in the basement of the home in a residential neighbourhood and were unable to leave because locks had been placed on the doors.
The suspects are also believed to have taken over control of the elderly couple's finances.
The report says the elderly couple were not at the home yesterday, one having left some time ago for medical reasons and the other in circumstances that have not been made public.
