Warm weather shuts down many outdoor skating rinks

The warm winter temperatures we've been experiencing are having an adverse effect on the city's outdoor skating rinks.

The Plateau Mont Royal borough says the spring like weather has turned the hockey rinks into ponds.

"Everyone is facing the same problem. It's just over for the season. It's very sad to say but that's the fact." says Projet Montreal councillor Marianne Giguere.

Giguere says keeping the rinks open isn't feasible and says even if there is a return to colder weather, it would be difficult, if not impossible to maintain the rinks.

If you're hoping to get some skating in, the Saint Louis arena is an option and there are refrigerated rinks in Verdun or at the Old Port.
