WATCH: Direction change of St. Henri street has business owner seeing red
Rose de Lima Street in St. Henri is now open as a one way street northbound.
The reconfiguration came as a surprise to local merchant Peter Sergakis who thought he had time to organize other business owners and residents to oppose the change.
Sergakis says the change will strangle Notre Dame Street, cutting off direct access via Rose de Lima from the Ville Marie eastbound.
"They (the borough) don't care about business," he says. "It doesn't make sense."
Southwest Borough Mayor Benoit Dorais says the complaint comes 18 months too late.
He says there were several public consultations, including one with the local merchants association.
Dorais says traffic lights have been reconfigured and lines have been painted on the street, so the time to speak up has passed.
