WATCH: Environment Canada confirms microburst in NDG; investigates possible tornado in Lachute

Environment Canada confirms the extensive damage in NDG, due to Tuesday's intense storm, was a microburst.

The weather phenomenon is described as a downdraft that moves in the opposite way of a tornado.

Serge Mainville with Environment Canada says one of the big clues was that the fallen trees in the borough were aligned in the same direction, unlike during a tornado, when the rotation produces a different pattern.
Environment Canada continues to investigate the possibility of a tornado in Lachute which may have developed with the second line of violent weather that went through around 6:10PM.
