WATCH: Man shot and killed by police in Lachine following chase
Quebec's independent investigations bureau (BEI) is investigating after a 27-year-old man was shot and killed in Lachine following a police chase early Thursday morning.
The incident began around 12:45 a.m., when police say a man alerted police that his son — who's said to have a history of mental issues — was in crisis and had gotten behind the wheel with intent to do harm.
Several 9-1-1 calls were placed shortly thereafter, as the man was seen speeding through the streets of Cote St. Luc.
Montreal police then chased the man as he fled west toward Lachine. Along the way, police say he got involved in no less than three other collisions before losing control of his car near a construction site on St. Joseph Blvd. near George V Ave.
At the construction site, he also apparently tried to run over a flagman.
He was shot at least once as he tried to drive toward police. He died of his injuries later in hospital.
