WATCH: May Day march turns ugly
Montreal Police clashed with dozens of anti-capitalist protesters during a May Day march Tuesday in the Plateau and downtown.
Shortly after the event began, demonstrators tossed projectiles at police and ignited fireworks.
Witnesses tell CTV Montreal that police dispersed the crowd gathered near Sherbrooke Street and St-Timothee with batons and tear gas.
At least 5 people were arrested, the charges include obstruction, mischief and armed assault.
At one point, as many as 4 protests were taking place throughout the city as part of the annual demonstration for workers' rights.
