WATCH: Richler gazebo vandalized in EDM dance party on Mount Royal

A group of day-time partygoers on Mount Royal left their mark during a EDM dance party on Sunday at the Mordecai Richler memorial gazebo—literally.

Video shows some of the group tagging the wooden floors with graffiti, using Sharpies and other forms of permanent ink.

Six police officers on patrol eventually put a stop to it, but the floors of the gazebo remain vandalized.

Graffiti in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough carries a fine of $1,000 to $5,000.

The gazebo on Mount Royal, off of Park Ave., was rebuilt to honour the late Montreal writer’s memory, but it took five years and nearly a quarter of a million dollars to complete.

It was finally unveiled last summer, and has been a routine target for graffiti since then.
