Woman dies, kids taken to hospital after car and school bus collide

A 25-year-old Valleyfield woman was killed after the car she was driving collided with a school minivan Monday morning in St. Clet, just outside Vaudreuil-Dorion.

The occupants of the bus, who were headed to Forest Hill Elementary's junior and senior campuses in St. Lazare, were not seriously hurt, but did get the fright of their lives.

The crash happened at around 9 a.m. on Route 201 in St. Clet, when the driver of the car apparently lost control and veered into the oncoming school minivan.

Lester B. Pearson board chair Suanne Stein Day says there were 11 children on the bus. Seven of them were taken to hospital with minor injuries. As of early Monday afternoon, six of them had been released, while the other was kept behind after going through a vomiting spell.

Provincial police say the driver of the bus was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead in hospital.

The SQ's Joyce Kemp says that section of the road was icy at the time of the crash, though the investigation continues into the exact cause.
