Woman injured after explosive device detonates inside mailbox

A Senneville woman is recovering after she suffered minor injuries when a homemade explosive device detonated inside her mailbox.

Police say the 68 year old sustained injuries to her upper body but didn't need to be taken to hospital.

The woman went to retrieve her mail from her mailbox at the corner of Senneville Road and Angus Avenue around 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

A man who was on the road when the object exploded came to her assistance.

The arson squad has taken over the investigation and the SWAT team and canine unit are at the scene to make sure there are no other explosive objects in the area.

No arrests have been made.
