Woman stabbed on downtown street corner

Montreal police are looking for a suspect who fled the scene of a downtown stabbing.

Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at about 9:15 P.M. Sunday at the corner of Montcalm and Sherbrooke. Reports came in of a fight between an unknown man and woman. During the altercation the man allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman multiple times in the upper body.

He fled the scene before police arrived.

The 24-year-old woman was rushed to hospital in a critical condition; she improved over night and is expected to recover.

The area was closed for several hours while investigators went over the scene and met with witnesses.

No arrests have been made.

Police believe the incident is drug-related.
