Windsor police responded to the area of Elliott and Mercer streets on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019. (Angelo Aversa / CTV Windsor)

Roads have reopened after a heavy police presence in a Windsor neighbourhood close to downtown.

Windsor police responded to the area of Elliott and Mercer streets on Wednesday afternoon. Officers could be seen with guns drawn.

Police say it was an active police investigation and there was no direct threat to public safety.

No other information is being released.

But the home that officers surrounded is believed to be the same home that was the focus of a shots fired investigation in July.

Police have now taped off the area, and seem to focusing on the corner house. @CTVWindsor @AM800News pic.twitter.com/gvwuGub2P6
