Sunday’s JUNO Awards on CTV wrapped up with a jam of Bryan Adams’ 1984 hit “Summer of ’69” featuring Sarah McLachlan, Alessia Cara, Arkells and Billy Talent.
Adams, who co-hosted the show, has crafted a long list of hits — “Straight from the Heart,” “Somebody,” “One Night Love Affair” and “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” to name only a handful.
But, “Summer of ’69” is easily the singer’s most iconic track (the video has had nearly 64 million views on YouTube).
MORE: What You Should Know About Bryan Adams
On the Juno Awards red carpet, iHeartRadio.ca asked Canadian artists which one of Adams’ songs they would like to cover. Surprisingly, only three tracks were mentioned.
Check out their choices:
Chad Brownlee
“That’s a good one, man. You know what? I’ve got to go with a staple, the classic ‘Summer of ’69.’ It doesn’t get old for me. You know what, ‘Run To You’ — it’s between those two for sure. He’s got so many hits, it’s tough to choose.”
Jess Moskaluke
“Only one? I guess ‘Summer of ’69’ because I have already done it. I mean, who hasn’t sung it a thousand times?”
Gord Bamford
“I love a lot of Bryan’s stuff. Probably ‘Heaven.’ I love that one.”
Izzy Ritchie of The Strumbellas
“We actually already have covered a Bryan Adams song — ‘Summer of ’69’ — and we never do covers because we’re too lazy to learn all the lyrics. But we heard that song and we said ‘We’ve got to cover it.’ I think it’s the only cover we’ve ever recorded. I think we picked the best one.”
Melissa McClelland of Whitehorse
“I’d say ‘Summer of 69’ because it’s the most classic tune.
Aaron Pritchett
“Probably ‘Run To You.’ I love ‘Run To You.’ There are so many great songs. The list is endless.”
Shaun Frank
“Wow. Probably ‘Cuts Like A Knife.’ Go back to that one. I love ‘Run To You’ but ‘Cut Likes A Knife’ has got that big vocal hook.”
Chantal Kreviazuk
“One of my dream moments! Me and Bryan did a show and I went out and I played the piano and did ‘Heaven’ with him — so it doesn’t really get better than that.”
