Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban and Kacey Musgraves were the big winners at Wednesday night’s CMA Awards, which honour the year’s best in country music.
Stapleton led the way with five nominations and managed to win three – Single of the Year and Song of the Year (for “Broken Halos”) and Male Vocalist of the Year. He lost Entertainer of the Year to Keith Urban.
"I wish my dad was here to see this," an emotional Urban said, "but I think he's watching over me tonight, and I just feel very very blessed, and very grateful that I get to do what I do."
Musgraves’ Golden Hour was named Album of the Year.

Female Vocalist of the Year winner was Carrie Underwood, who co-hosted the CMAs with Brad Paisley (and revealed the gender of her baby). She also performed “Love Wins” while backed by a full choir.
The show opened with Garth Brooks asking for a moment of silence dedicated to the victims of the Borderline mass shooting in California.
“On behalf of our country music community, I want to say that tonight’s show is lovingly dedicated to the 12 individuals whom we lost far too soon just a week ago tonight at the Borderline in Thousand Oaks, California,” he said.
“Tonight, let’s celebrate their lives. Let the music unite us with love, and their enduring memory.”
Luke Bryan followed with a performance of “What Makes You Country” that featured Luke Combs, Lindsay Ell, Jon Cardi, Cole Swindell, Ashley McBryde and Chris Janson.
Other performances on the show included Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert doing their hit “Drowns the Whiskey,” Kelsea Ballerini singing “Miss Me More” and Thomas Rhett doing “Life Changes.”
