While in Miami shooting the music video for "God's Plan," Drake made a surprise visit to a homeless shelter for women and children on Tuesday, with a $50,000 cheque to contribute and gifts for the kids.
The Lotus Endowment Fund is a non-profit organization that provides shelter and services for those in need. After a decade of assisting the Miami homeless community, the organization has experienced increased demand for additional shelter capacity and has expanded with the development of Lotus Village.
According to a press release from the shelter, the Toronto rapper provided the donation as residents began moving into the new facilities, just ahead of their grand opening on April 19th.
Lotus Village currently has a goal of $25 million to expand its reach and hopes to become a national model for other shelters to follow suit. The new facilities feature a community clinic, children’s wellness centre and a Zen garden.
Along with the generous cheque, Drake also handed out $150 Target gift cards to the female residents and multiple gifts to the kids.
Prior to his shelter visit, Drake made a stop at a local high school and treated students to a performance and a $25,000 cheque for school uniforms.
