Canadian singer-songwriter Tom Cochrane performed “Big League” on Tuesday as a tribute to the Humboldt Broncos.
The 1988 song from Cochrane’s band Red Rider was written from the perspective of a hockey dad whose son is killed by "a truck doing seventy in the wrong lane."
Last Friday, 15 people – mostly young hockey players – were killed and 14 others were injured when a tractor-trailer slammed into their bus on a Saskatchewan highway.

At the opening of the NHL on TSN playoff special, Cochrane sang the familiar chorus – "My boy's gonna play in the big league / my boy's gonna turn some heads" – but reworked a verse. "Riding to the game, riding with his team," he sang. " Riding with his friends and riding for the dreams / Riding off to immortality."
