Busy couple of months at KBRH meant some postponed elective surgeries

They've had a really busy stretch of time over the last couple of months at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.

Acute Health Services Administrator Jane Cusden says it's due to a number of factors, with more fractured hips coming in and patients with the flu.

They've had to postpone some elective surgeries at times because they need to have appropriate beds for patients.

She says it's an overall pressure in the hospital.

Although it starts in the ER, redevelopment of the space, which is a priority for IH, would mean more patients could be seen in the ER... but there would still be pressure when it comes to beds in the rest of the hospital.

Cusden says they're still busy, but they haven't had a postponement since February 23rd.
